Interview with Robert Byers, Jr

What motivated you to become an indie author?
Well with how hard it is to become published through a normal publisher like Del Rey or even Roc, since I'm a first time author, I thought this would be the easiest way to get my story out there and get myself noticed.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Letting the voices in my head out to play. I mean seriously everyone has those voices that we hear, like an inner voice, only with me I get strange dreams and such and it's so fun to play the "what if?" game. What if this character and that one fell in love? What if this one manipulated the others into doing this dirty deed? And so forth. I mean being the creator of your own world is amazing.
What do your fans mean to you?
They mean I did it right. They are the one's that chose to read my story and learn about my characters, visit the cities and travel the oceans in these worlds. A story is valuable in and of itself, but a story that people other than yourself enjoy is priceless.
What are you working on next?
Well I am working on the next installment of my Twilight of the Gods series. Fantasy and Science Fiction are my favorite genres to write about and that is going to be the next part. I'm going with the idea of what if this god and those gods had a war sparked by the end of the last book? What if Merric and the others do find a way to take their place in the hierarchy of the pantheon of gods? Well then it would probably be like the next book.
Who are your favorite authors?
Wow, hard question. Well I would have to say I have a few, Sherrilyn Kenyon is the main author I read. But I also love the Mitch Rapp series by Vince Flynn. George R. R. Martin's A Song of Fire and Ice. R. L. Stein's Fear Street saga. Frank Herbert's Dune series is the best Science Fiction I have ever had the pleasure to read. Of course that's just the main authors I read there's still a lot more.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The chance to write down either more about my story or the crazy dream that I had the night before.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Reading, I have a small library and need to read the books I'm still waiting to read. Also playing video games to stimulate ideas and watching television.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Usually through surfing the web and searching for something new to spark my interest. Unless it's an author that I want to read then I go searching for it.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Um no that's way to far back to go. The first story I remember trying to write was about a talking wolf that changed into a little boy. But that's all I can remember of it.
What is your writing process?
Well there really is no way to give a step by step. I mean yes I use an outline but usually it's all disjointed and put together in whatever order the scenes come to me. But if something sparks an idea I try to write that out and make a huge list of what it could be, and what it could not be. Then unless something else comes to mind I try to work the idea until I can get a working outline. I'm sure there's something else there but not sure what it would be.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
That's an easy one. The first I ever read fully was Star Wars Jedi Quest number 1. That was what started me in reading Science Fiction.
