Interview with John Christopher & James Michael Wegner

What motivated you to become an indie author?
Thejyreq and I have always loved stories. We love how things in them can evoke such strong emotions in people even though they aren't real. Heavy metal music also played a part in this, but Berserk by Kentaro Miura pushed us over the ledge. Not to mention we saw how people admired other people's works and wanted that for ourselves. On top of that, writing gives us a way to discuss important ideas in an entertaining manner. Lastly, it lets us have 100% control over something.
When did you first start writing?
Thejyreq and I started writing many years ago. The first things we ever wrote were for school. They consisted of poems, research papers, and short stories. The first major project we ever did was Married... with Kaoru. It's a parody of Rurouni Kenshin that's based loosely on Married... with Children. We started it in 2004 and the last new episode (we do these instead of chapters) was in 2007. However, we're not done with it yet. We're just taking a break to work on Darkquisition. Sometime we'll start working on it again.
What 's the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy of writing for Thejyreq and I is the idea of having something we created entirely by ourselves. The feeling of having created something after many hours of hard work can't be explained. It's pure magic, and should be felt by everyone.
What's your writing process?
Our writing process is nothing out of the ordinary. When we start a story, we create an outline for things like major characters, the basic story, and important plot points. Then we make up the details as we write it. We think having a plan as well as being spontaneous is the best thing for our writing.
What do your fans mean to you?
They mean the world to us. They actually like our work and took the time to read things written by two people they've never heard of before. Thank you very small pool of people who support us!
Who're your favorite authors?
They'd be Dean Koontz, Glenn Beck, Mark Levin, John Stossel, Stephen King, KentarĊ Miura, Nobuhiro Watsuki, and others.
If your story/stories was/were ice cream, what flavor would it/they be?
Adventure Arc the First: Entity of Ascendancy (Darkquisition) would be butter pecan because it's nuts. As for Married... with Kaoru, it'd be squid because it's Japanese and unusual.
What are your favorite books?
They'd be The Green Mile, Fear Nothing, Seize the Night, Intensity, Death Troopers, Red Harvest, 1984, The Dream Giver, Laughter and Tears: Living Both Sides of Life, On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft, Rurouni Kenshin, Cowboy Bebop, Wolf's Rain, Basilisk: The Kouga Ninja Scrolls, Berserk, The Yagyu Ninja Scrolls: Revenge of the Hori Clan, Priest, Samurai 7, Arguing with Idiots, Liberty and Tyranny: A Conservative Manifesto, Rules for Radicals: A Pragmatic Primer for Realistic Radicals, and The Coming Insurrection.
Is there a politcal perspective to your story/stories?
Yes, there is. All our stories have a conservative libertarian perspective to them, but we try to not let that take them over. We want them to be fun too.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Hands down: our writing. It's the sole purpose of our existence and our personal mission in life. If we don't create our literary works, no one else will. Therefore it's extremely important we keep doing it, even in the face of hostile opposition.
