Interview with Laurence Probert

Published 2017-06-08.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy of writing for me is to be able to share with the wider public a message, which I have preached for so long to a limited audience. This truth is so far-reaching and life-transforming; I believe it needs to be shared with as many people as possible.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Some years ago, I received a new revelation from the Lord which changed my life radically. I was set free from a legalistic approach to Christianity as the grace of God in Christ took on new meaning for me. The finished work of Christ on the cross gave me a new perspective on my identity. I saw myself no longer as a sinner saved by grace, but as a person who has been made righteous by what Jesus Christ did for me on the cross. He bore all the guilt and condemnation that I so rightly deserved so that I today can walk free from all of that and now live a victorious life in Him as my Saviour and Lord. He has given me, not temporary salvation until I sin again, but eternal salvation, which can never be taken away from me again.
What are you working on next?
I haven't yet started writing another book, but I'm toying with the idea of writing a novel in the near future. It still needs a great deal of thought, planning and preparation.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
My wife is a very keen gardener and so I sometimes help her with the heavy work in the garden. Otherwise, I spend some time reading or watching interesting programs on TV. We have a very active weekly "prayer" meeting in our complex and I share a message there on occasion. I have a keen interest in photography and spend some time taking photos of my wife's gardening creations and of the birds which frequent our garden. In the past I have spent time doing some artwork and sometimes get involved in diy jobs on our property.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
One of the first books I ever read was a collection of Grimm's Fairy Tales. I was greatly intrigued by these stories, which inspired me and sparked a fire in my imagination when I was a young boy.
What do you read for pleasure?
I enjoy reading stories based on fact and various Christian magazines and articles.
