Interview with Philip Cooper

What are you working on next?
I am working on a political thriller based on true events that happened in Greece between 2016 and 2018. The book is titled 'Macedonia is Burning'
Who are your favorite authors?
I have favourite authors of the moment where I find an author and read all his or her books in sequence. At the moment I'm into Nelson DeMille. Recently I finished reading all of the Wire in the Blood books by Val McDermid.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Enjoyment of my day job which is teaching autistic children and looking forward to writing once I get home.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I love to travel especially to Greece. I always make sure I spend a week or two in Greece every year. I also like traveling to new places and have a bucket list of where I want to go. Other pastimes are reading, movies, sport and the gym.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Mainly from the Sunday Times supplement or else from Amazon.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
The first story was very recent but the first poem I ever wrote was written nearly 50 years ago for my sister to take to her school. It is being published in my book 'If I could Paint Your Picture'.
What is your writing process?
Very ad hoc and I never plan out the stories I let them evolve as I write. This seems to work for me.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
It was a Dennis Wheatley book about black magic. It scared me to death. It showed me how the written word can impact emotionally.
How do you approach cover design?
I am hopeless at art so I get a third party to design the cover. I just input ideas and let the creative artists weave their magic.
What do you read for pleasure?
Mainly fiction books particularly thrillers.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Personally I like the kindle.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
I use my social media accounts to market my books.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
My books are now distributed to a wider audience which of course greatly helps sales.
