Interview with AE Hayes

Published 2016-09-28.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I use the kindle reader app on my actual kindle, through my phone or even on my desktop. I have been a huge fan of kindle since it came out. This app just adds to what I already enjoy. Love to read!
Describe your desk
Too small! HA. I am either at my desk or propped up in my bed when I write. It's whatever is more comfortable.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in a small town in the midwest (Missouri). It made it kind of difficult to write when I was younger. Living in a tiny town where everyone knows each other and there is nothing new...ever going on lol. Makes your span of creativity dwindle a little. Once I got older and got to see much more, I had much more to write about. I was finally able to see more of what the rest of the world is interested in on that level. I write for my readers, not just myself.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing in 2000. I was first published in 2001, after being nominated for the International Poet of the Year award. Poetry was the beginning of my growing passion in writing.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Ahead of the Galaxy is a story about a man who believes he's lost everything, before his career puts him in a position to learn his biggest lesson in life in order to find what he had lost, in a completely different world. Very much a sci-fi story ending with the impossible being possible. I very much hope you enjoy it!
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
I think word of mouth advertisement is the second most effective book marketing technique, but #1 on my personal list would be the book blurbs being catchy (either that or the reviews, whichever is seen first). That is a really hard question lol!
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I love to write and have several friends in the industry who got me intrigued. So far I am loving it!
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Connecting with my fans. I love the idea that we all have so many similar thoughts and ideas in life and in some way or another, my writing connects us in them.
What are you working on next?
I haven't quite decided. Any suggestions? What do you guys wanna read?
Who are your favorite authors?
Stephanie Meyer, Bella Forrest, Veronica Roth and Suzanne Collins are just a few of my favorite authors.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I am not writing, I am raising my children and my home. I home school both of my two kids. I cook, I clean, I do laundry, I give baths and do all those other lovely things you get to do as a mother. Lol I really do love getting to spend time with my kids, they love art as much as I do. We play/create music and they help me run my Company, A&T Studios, where we do Photography, Graphic Design, and Music Production. This is my life, my children.
