Interview with Alan Cook

Published 2018-04-17.
When did you first start writing?
At about the time I could first hold a pencil.
What's the story behind your latest book?
"Your Move" is the 7th book in the Carol Golden series. She is a code breaker and game player, and is called on to figure out a game that a serial killer is playing.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I never found an agent I could work with and it's too difficult to find a publisher without one.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
By distributing my books to multiple sellers such as Kobo and Apple, Smashwords has been instrumental to my success as an indie author.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy is completing a book or other written piece, reading it over and discovering that I really like it.
What do your fans mean to you?
Fans are the lifeblood of the author. Without them we would be writing only for ourselves.
What are you working on next?
I am always working on a book as well as shorter pieces such as articles, short stories and poems.
Who are your favorite authors?
Ray Bradbury, Jeffery Deaver, Sue Grafton, Sir Walter Scott.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Something to do, someone to love (my wife and family) and something to look forward to.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Walking, traveling, working on puzzles and games.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Usually I look for them by author because I am familiar with his or her work. Publicity helps.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Actually, it was probably a poem and forgettable but a start, nevertheless.
What is your writing process?
Write every morning while I'm working on a project. After finishing a draft reread and rewrite until it's done.
