Interview with Albert J. Allie

What's the story behind your latest book?
"Summerfield," is inspired by my life from age 13 to 15 when I left home. It's the story about the horrible childhood/home life I had. It is also about 4 other very close friends who had even worse home lives. It is a drama but also is a romance of two people who fell in love as kids. I changed names and had to fictionalize part of the story to protect people and their identities.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing when I was 13 years old. My 8th grade teacher noticed I had a talent for writing and nurtured it.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I started out writing stories at a young age and moved on to screenplays. I have always wanted to write books and decided to just go and do it
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I get to create my own worlds and to go into that world when I am writing. When a story is finished I usually get sad because it's like leaving good friends.
What are you working on next?
I am planning 2 series ideas. One is a science fiction, steampunk style series called "The King of Aberidia."
The second is an action/Sci-fi series called "The Jon Hurt Chronicles."
Who are your favorite authors?
James Patterson and Stephen King
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My family.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I'm either shooting a film or spending time with my grandson.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I search out some and I am also a member of groups where I get other people's work to read.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
The first actual FULL story I wrote was a monster script that I wrote all in pen on loose leaf paper. Prior to that was short things from school.
What is your writing process?
Music mainly inspires stories in me. I listen to music and envision something going on in my head. For something action packed I listen to classic metal and rock. For something dramatic or romantic some softer music. Other things are inspired by things I see or hear.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
20,000 Leagues Under The Sea. This took me away for the first time in my life to a place I had never been. One of the most amazing things I have ever read.
How do you approach cover design?
What do you read for pleasure?
I like action books but I am totally nosey so I like autobiographies and Biographies.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I keep it simple. I have an android tablet and read everything in .PDF
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Mailing lists and groups
Describe your desk
I would if I could see it.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Queens, NY and it has given me more than my share of subjects to write. Including "Summerfield."

The past is a strange and beautiful thing. Some people run from it, some try to relive it, some try to recreate it and some try to pretend that it didn’t exist. For Alan, the past is a living, breathing thing that has chased him from the streets of Summerfield to present day, back to his roots for a funeral that never should have had to happen and old secrets revealed.
