Interview with L.J. Butler

Published 2013-11-23.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
My mother tells me it was "The Little Train that Could". She tells me I asked my Grandfather to read it so many times that he hid it from me. :)
How do you approach cover design?
My design is a white dove? The dove is on the article and symbolizes the Spirit of God.
What do you read for pleasure?
Spiritual Books
What is your e-reading device of choice?
The computer
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Oklahoma. The daughter of a Baptist Mom and Catholic Father. I had a loving childhood, but there were ups and downs as all kids have today. I learned very early around the age of 8 about God.
When did you first start writing?
I kept a diary when I was young and always enjoyed writing stories in school.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I happened to look at all the on-line books in different categories and not one touched on the Truth. I want everyone to experience the one thing that will get you through the ups and downs of life and that is Truth. Always keep the Faith!
What motivated you to become an indie author?
The freeness of it all. God's truth should be free to all. I see people paying for witchcraft and all sorts of stuff. Why not pay a small price and get the truth.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
I am not looking at my success, but at God's success. If this little writing helps someone dive deep inside and ask real questions, then it will be a success.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Seeing results.
What do your fans mean to you?
Everything, because we are all the Body of Christ. Whoever believes in Jesus, is a fan, regardless of what Church you attend.
What are you working on next?
Not sure yet, but it may have something to do with horses! God loves the horse. The horse is found throughout the Bible.
Who are your favorite authors?
Rick Warren
Florence Scovel Shinn
Alexandra Ripley
Richard Thomas
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
God - I thank him for everyday!
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Working in business and with the animals.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Search engines.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
That was too long ago. But most of my stories were non-fiction.
What is your writing process?
I have an idea. I pray about the idea and then sit down and start typing and see where it leads me.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
The Bible - it's all about life and faith. It's a great resource if you have questions about your own life events.
Black Dawn / Bright Day - A writing about earth changes by a Native American Indian, named Sun Bear.
The Essiac Report - by Richard Thomas - this is a great healing book.
Gone with the Wind - Truly a classic
Funny Money - by Mark Singer - I think this is what is happening in our world today.
