Interview with Allyson Olivia

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy of writing to me is putting on paper what I cannot communicate verbally.
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans are important to me. They push me when I want to close my laptop and say forget it. They are so supportive and I appreciate them. When they tell me they hate a character or love a character, I get this warm feeling of excitement because I know they were able to feel what I intended.
What are you working on next?
I am working on a inspirational book for singles next. I have already written the first installment in a series for children around twelve years old, but I have not published this book yet.
Who are your favorite authors?
Dr. Maya Angelou, W.M. Paul Young, Toni Morrison, and C.S. Lewis are a few.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Purpose inspires me to get out of bed each day. I understand that I am blessed to see another day for a purpose and it is getting closer to understanding what that is that gets me out of bed each day. My husband's snoring also gets me out of bed, though I am not sure how inspiring that noise is for me. And I have to mention the beautiful smile and the infectious laugh of my daughter who is a toddler.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I am not writing, I spend my time thinking about writing :). I spend my time at work and with my family. I also decided to pursue another degree so I spend a lot of time completing assignments and reading.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I discover a lot of ebooks via social media.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
My mom reminded me of a story I wrote in elementary school. I remember writing the story and binding it as a class assignment, but I have to read it to remember what it is about.
What is your writing process?
Typically, I write when I am motivated. When an idea comes to me, I try to sit down before I forget. Lately, I have been writing when I have free time. The problem is, I don't really have any free time.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I read a lot of stories as a child. I remember being excited that I could travel to different worlds without leaving the comfort of my home. I was fascinated by books because I was a dreamer and books fueled my imagination.
How do you approach cover design?
I don't want my cover to look like every other cover. I want the cover to help readers see the story. If it is pain, love, desperation, I want the cover to communicate that.
