Interview with Amira Armenta

Published 2017-05-09.
What's the story behind your latest book?
A few months before he died, my friend, the artist Miguel-Ángel Cárdenas, asked me: why do not you write a book about me? After a little thought I said yes. This book is now the result of my conversations with him and with several of his friends, and the result of an inquiry into the digital archive of his work. In these pages, I try not only to explain his artistic work, but his character, his fascinating personality and his life itself.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
That is yet to be seen
What motivated you to become an indie author?
It is becoming increasingly difficult to find an editor interested in publishing your work. Platforms like Smashwords allow you to publish and put your work to public access without having to go through complicated processes with conventional publishing houses.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The creation process. The ordering of ideas. See how the page fills up with coherent sentences that become a paragraph. Then another paragraph, and so on.
What do your fans mean to you?
It means that there are people who care about what I've written
What are you working on next?
I'm thinking of writing the second part of a crime novel I published a few years ago.
Who are your favorite authors?
I have many favorite authors. It is very difficult for me to choose one or two names. It depends on the gender. But if at this moment I have to decide by a single name, I would say the British writer Robert Harris
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Reading..., or drinking coffee in the cafes of my neighborhood in Berlin.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Through friends, or the literary supplements of newspapers/magazines.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
It was probably so bad that I forgot.
What do you read for pleasure?
I really like novels based on historical facts. The biography. But I also read with great pleasure thrillers and science fiction books.
