Interview with Amaryllis Holloway-Turman

Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Hmmm. I vaguely remember it. I was young then. It had to have been at least 30 years ago. These days I write more poetry and prose though.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I cannot remember the very first story, but I do know that when I read my first Amanda Quick novel, I knew that I loved romance novels. I have been reading them ever since. I have always liked strong, sassy heroines too.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I find a lot of my books from Goodreads and suggestions from friends. Many of my friends love to read as much as I do, so they always have good ideas as to what to read next.
What is your writing process?
I get my pen and paper and put on a little music to get the creative juices flowing. Then I take a nap. LOL When I wake up, I usually have some of my best ideas.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords helped me to get my first book published. I did not know how to self-publish and was unsure where to go. I heard so many horror stories that I was apprehensive. Smashwords made the process easy and painless.
Are you an introvert, extrovert, or somewhere in between depending on the situation?
People would tell you that I am an extreme extrovert, but I think that I am in the middle. I do not mind talking to people I don’t know but I also like going into introvert mode to recharge my internal batteries. Just out of curiosity, I paused from this and took a survey (http://www.quietrev.com) and they said that I am an ambivert- in the middle of the introvert-extrovert spectrum.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I love my Kindle paperwhite. I take it everywhere.
What do you read for pleasure?
My pleasure is reading ROMANCE novels! My favorite sub-genre at the moment is dragon shifters.
Describe your desk
I can admit it. My desk is mess. I have papers everywhere. I try to keep the stacks contained and organized, but they sometimes topple over. I have sticky notes with random thoughts written on them. And my planner lays on top of it all.
What are you working on next?
I have not been writing any books lately because I have been spending a lot of time developing my blog, The Opinionated Woman's Musings (www.amaryllisturman.com). It has been a fun venture, though it has sapped a lot of my creative energy. I need to take a breather and write, write, write.
Who are your favorite authors?
Some of the authors I recommend depend on the category:
Humor/entertainment Luvvie Ajayi
SciFi romance Anna Hackett & Cara Bristol
Paranormal romance Terry Bolryder
Contemporary romance Carly Phillips
Fiction Liane Moriarty
South Carolina mysteries Hope Clark
Published 2017-03-24.
