Interview with A. L. Norton

Published 2017-12-03.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Writing allows me to be at peace. I love making up characters and bringing them to life.
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans mean everything to me. Without them, I would not be successful.
What are you working on next?
I just got done with a romance novel. I am not sure yet. I have a lot of different ideas. I may try my hand at a thriller. Who knows. We shall see!
Who are your favorite authors?
Stephen King for sure!
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Knowing that I have some writing to look forward to. My family inspires me as well.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I am spending it with my family. Or thinking about what I am going to write next. Ha!
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I usually discover them on amazon.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, It was "My Nightmare in Georgia." It took me over 20 years to get up enough guts to release it. It was based on growing up with my abusive dad. It took a lot out of me when I wrote that book, but I wanted to inspire others, and to let them know that they are not alone.
What is your writing process?
I usually do a little bit of a rough draft, but most of it is like freelance. I write off the top of my head and whatever comes to mind.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I read the Ryan White story. More than once. He inspired me greatly.
How do you approach cover design?
I have a hard time with designing my covers. I just design what looks good to me. Remember, don't judge a book by it's cover!
What are your five favorite books, and why?
I do not have a five favorite.
What do you read for pleasure?
I like to read crime novels, thrillers and horror novels. Sometimes, romance and erotica.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Kindle.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Amazon
Describe your desk
I like to kick back in bed with a cup of coffee and write.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Georgia, although I now live in Indiana. Moving around a lot because of my dad being in the military, makes it easier to choose a place and a setting for your book.
When did you first start writing?
As far back as I can remember. I use to write short stories, music and poems when I was little.
What's the story behind your latest book?
It's a romance novel. It's due out within the next few days. You'll have to read it to find out.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I love writing and sharing my thoughts with others.

“Hi,” I smiled as I kept swinging. “You want to play with me?” He smiled back. “Sure!” I was happy. “Let’s play in the fort,” he pointed to the large clearing in the bushes. “Okay.” I used my bare feet, dragging them against the sand to stop the swing, and got up. It was August. Hot. Hotter they said than it had been in recorded time. I was not here in this kitchen in rural New York someplace, I was in L.A., outside the city up in the hills, a little farm. There was no wind. No rain. Seemed like no air to breath. Global Warming they said. Maybe... Changes coming, they said. Oh yeah, changes were coming. Changes right there on tha
