Interview with Amoi Kin

How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
It has given me the platform to reach out to more readers who like similar themes I do.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
My greatest joy in writing is getting out the worlds I see in my head and sharing them with others in a way they can understand.
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans mean everything to me. The encouragements they give me by telling me they liked a story or they can't wait to read more always brightens my day.
What are you working on next?
I'm currently working on the second installment of my Memoirs of a Sex Addict book and the second installment of my Fera series. I also have a steampunk novel I'm finishing up.
Who are your favorite authors?
Sherrilyn Kenyon is definitely number one. I love every book she writes. I recently discovered Janet Evanovich and she's a close second.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
That's a hard question. I don't know. The idea that every new day can take me closer to whatever goal I have.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I study. I'm still in school sadly... I also watch Asian dramas, anime, and other movies. I also read, of course. If I'm motivated, I will work out.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I use a nook so that's where I read most of my ebooks. However, if I need something new, I'll go searching the web to find something. My library also has a great selection of ebooks to choose from.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
No... LOL. The first story I can recall was written in first grade. It was super stupid starring a boy I was crushing on and myself. Thinking back on it makes me feel really embarrassed.
What is your writing process?
I'm really bad about not figuring out my plotline first. I typically have a few scenarios in my head and I write them down. As more scenarios form, the story gets longer. If something doesn't fit, I'll go back and edit it. About halfway through, I'll know how I want to end the story and will start winding the story on that path.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
The first story I ever read that I really, really liked was Twilight. Everyone talks trash about how much the series sucked but it was what made me fall in love with reading and romance. If I never read those books, I wouldn't be able to create the stories I do today.
How do you approach cover design?
I have many talented friends who are artists. I tell them to read my story and let it inspire them to create something. After they come up with something, we'll tune out the finer details together.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
I can't say five book, but I can do five series. So I would pick the Fox and O'hare series, the Dark-Hunters Series, and Knight and Moon series, League series, and the Psy Changeling Series. These series are all action packed while full of romance. So, heaven basically.
What do you read for pleasure?
Paranormal and mystery romance novels
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Nook.
Describe your desk
Cluttered and unused. I will use it for school work but not writing.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in multiple states and cities. I feel like moving around as a child has opened me to different people and cultures, which makes it easier to develop different characters throughout my stories.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I wanted to get my stories out there but I'm not looking for financial reimbursement at the moment. Once I am, my stories might not be free anymore.
When did you first start writing?
As soon as I could put a sentence together.
What's the story behind your latest book?
A character, who I have loved ever since creating three years ago, is a contract killer and her costar is trying to stop her from living that life as he has lived it and knows the consequences.
