Interview with Carrie Groneman

Published 2013-11-12.
What's the story behind your latest book?
When I was a teenager I happened to be at my friends house when her mom was taking lasagna out of the oven. I was so impressed! I didn't know you could make lasagna! I guess I figured lasagna fairies delivered them in the night. This cookbook was inspired by years of learning to cook and wanting to share this knowledge with others.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
This cookbook as been a joy to me because I have been able to share the cooking with my daughters-in-law, particularly, Tawni who took all the pictures for this book.
What do your fans mean to you?
It means everything! If I haven't helped someone with my cookbook, I haven't succeeded in my goal. My fans who stop by to visit my website (www.amothersshadow.com) are the best in the world.
What are you working on next?
A novel, titled, "A Mother's Shadow"
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Life! I love my family, simple things like cooking, taking a walk, enjoying time with my grandkids. Basically, I really enjoy people, as they are amazing motivators showing courage in their own trials and life journey. Nature revives me. So, 'life' inspires me to get out of bed.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Family, service, all kinds of hobbies and posting and preparing for my website, www.amothersshadow.com
What is your writing process?
It is a matter of writing when I can.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I truly wish I could find the book and the title, because though it was not the first story I ever read, it has tremendously impacted my life. It was a true story about a woman who was taken seriously ill and had to be in a body cast for an extended length of time. She eventually needed to strengthen her hands, but did not want to knit, so the staff had her peel all the oranges for breakfasts. The woman had such a positive attitude even through extremely difficult circumstances.
