Interview with Amy H Lynn

Published 2016-08-07.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I actually grew up in England with my mom and her side of the family. I think it helped influence my writing because it gave me a different perspective on the world. This definitely helped when I moved to American to live with my dad and his family, because it allowed for me to compare and contrast how different places in the world viewed certain things and issues. So all these experiences helped me learn how to write different types of characters and settings.
When did you first start writing?
I think I wrote my first "book" when I was 7 years old! If I remember correctly, it was about a fish. I continued to write, off and on, for years, then when I was 14 I finally decided that I wanted to really pursue it seriously.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I love giving people a chance to escape for a few hours. It's such a rush to know that people are taking some time for themselves to enjoy someone else's life, and that I created that life. It's just an incredible thing to contribute to someone's hobbies and free time.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I'm a huge Kindle fan. It's my favorite thing to use!
Who are your favorite authors?
Currently I'm a major fan of Maya Banks, and her KGI Series. But overall I love J. K. Rowling, Nora Roberts, J.D. Tyler, R. L. Kenderson, and Gena Showalter.
What do you read for pleasure?
I tend to stick to romance, but within that genre I'll read contemporary, mystery/suspense, paranormal, comedy, and recently I've been really into "ex-military turned private investigator" kind of stories. I just love them!
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I am a very avid reader! I read a lot of books, and that generally takes up some time. However I also do have a part time job and am enrolled in school full time. I also have a full-fledged addiction to HGTV.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Honestly, I'm terrible at marketing. However I have a pretty amazing following on wattpad, and they're great at helping me determine what does and doesn't work.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The book currently being worked on, set to release 09/27/2016, is "93% Chance I Don't Hate You", and it's a joint effort between me and my best friend, L. Taylor. We were talking one night and she just said to me "we should write a book together". Knowing how we write separately, I definitely knew she had a great idea, so we worked on this story. We spoke for hours about it, and we've put a lot of time and energy and effort into trying to make it the best we can. We're really excited to get it out there and see the reactions!
What are you working on next?
I will be working on a re-write of a popular wattpad story of mine, "Just One Night". The story was originally written when I was 16, and since then I've grown and matured, so I want the story to reflect that change. There's a lot of work that's going to go towards it, and I only hope that I can provide an updated, better, version that honors the original enough to make everyone happy.
