Interview with R Lee

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I am the offspring of two parents that worked for the U. S. diplomatic services. Neither of them were spies.
I tried to make them spies when I was a child living abroad and no matter how much I tried, they would have none of it. I think that this is where I got my imagination.
We never lived longer than three years at any one mission. I was born in Reykjavik, which I cannot remember. We moved to Venice when I was two years old, then onto Adana, Dusseldorf, Strasbourg, Barcelona, Calgary, and Saint Petersburg.
When did you first start writing?
When I was ten years old. I wrote a story about my parents for school which got me into a lot of trouble. I said that they were spies. Needless to say that my parents were not as understanding as Nadine's.
Where did you go to school?
I went to Berkley for my Bachelor’s in English. I unlike Nadine did not graduate in the top five per cent of my class. I did graduate with a major in English and a minor in Political Science. One never knows when one might need to fall back on their roots.
Are you married?
No, I am not married. Currently I am single and Nadine to some extent has become an extension of who I would like to grow up to be.
What does the R stand for?
On my birth certificate, my first name is Reykjavik. Since I was three years old, everyone has called me “R.” I only answer to R.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
They have allowed me to start publishing my series of books.
What is the one thing that you have loved about your life, so far?
I loved living in diplomatic missions. My parents believed in integrating my sisters and me in the local culture. I learned to speak, read and write six different languages.
I have experienced things that many people have yet to experience.
What do your fans mean to you?
For me as an author they mean everything to me.

With out my fans/readers I would not exist as an author. My wish to them is that they enjoy reading my books as much as I enjoyed writing them.
What are you working on next?
I am currently writing Week 3 which is the third in the series of 55 Weeks.
Published 2013-09-25.
