Interview with Thatch Roof Publishing

What's the story behind your latest book?
Several years ago, while wintering in the Turks and Caicos Islands, we met a group of people and we would all gather on the beach for "sunset cocktail hour". After a few conversations, these new friends told Jack that he should write down all of places he had traveled to. This advice came from an older gentleman who stated "you are one of the most interesting people I've met" and "if you don't write, you'll soon forget." This prompted Jack's Evolving Bucket List (

For the next few years we kept hearing the question - "How can we live your unique lifestyle?". Having perfected the art of vacationing - The Essential Guide to Long Term Vacationing is just the answer. (
What motivated you to become an indie author?
We searched the internet to find a book that describes how to live our lifestyle. How to enjoy a luxury vacation while sticking to a budget. There are a ton of how-to backpack and travel destination books, but none like this. When we came up empty handed we believed that other people would benefit from our experiences. We wanted to not just share how we plan and execute the perfect vacation, we also wanted to inspire others to think outside the box to make more time for leisure and holidaying.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Simply put, we've created the blueprint to living the life we want. We work and live in a beautiful area of the world from April until October, where we truly enjoy spending time. We plan ahead to travel and vacation in another part of the world for the remainder of the year. For us this is always somewhere exotic and typically, tropical. Being Seasonal Nomads always gives us something to look forward to. The excitement builds throughout the year and the anticipation of what adventures await us constantly puts a spring in our step. Currently we are excited to wake each morning and spread the word that our lifestyle is attainable. If we can do it, others can too. It's all there in Another Cocktail Please.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
During the past three Canadian winters we have focused on compiling our knowledge and experience on planning and enjoying the perfect vacation. The rest of the year we work very hard at our "regular" jobs, from early spring until fall. Now that we have published our book all of our free time is spent spreading the word and thinking of our next project.
How do you approach cover design?
A cover is important, more than that - it is crucial. It's the first thing people see. For us the cover had to translate our message. It in itself, had to illustrate the story - the theme of the book. We spent countless hours pouring over our own photography to gain inspiration as to how the cover should "feel". We then went online to all of the stock image providers and scoured through literally thousands of images. We were about to hire a graphic designer when Jack came upon one image in particular, that light bulb moment. It unquestionably epitomizes the content and our unique lifestyle.
