Interview with Anthony Jones

Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
The first story I ever read was Interview with a Vampire by Anne Rice. Her use to descriptive imagery was amazing and totally pulled me into the environment. Also a strong selling point that has stayed with me was the idea of giving a highly developed background story to a supposed "bad guy".
How do you approach cover design?
I have a very good friend who is a graphic designer. She is totally amazing with her free hand drawings while simply listening to me pitching an idea. I am forever grateful for her patience in my continuously evolving ideas.
Describe your desk
Well this is a very interesting question. Actually my desk is a wood grain computer desk with a fish aquarium in front. I know it sounds strange but having the fish there and listening to the water bubbling inside is quite soothing during the writing process. I know a few writers place themselves in a room to avoid distractions altogether but when I have tried that my mind would wonder to different things besides writing. This way I give one half of my mind something to focus on while the other part is staying with the storyline.
When did you first start writing?
I first started writing after I left the military. After being in multiple wars with the US Army, writing became almost therapeutic for me in dealing with the things I had seen when people are at their worst.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I am a huge fan of Dante Alighieri and wanted to write something to put a new spin on a classic. Also having been submerged in countless cultures around the world, I was looking for a way to link us together rather than just focus on the differences.
Who are your favorite authors?
My favorite authors are Hugh Howey, Anne Rice, J. A. Konrath, Dean Smith, and Dan Brown
