Interview with April Denton

Who are your favorite authors?
Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Charlotte Bronte, and Mary Higgins Clark
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Coffee! I know I get to have a delicious cup of hot coffee as soon as I get up.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I am not writing I like to take long walks, drawing, cooking.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Mostly Amazon, but I search sites separately as well. Google comes in handy when I am doing a general search.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
It wasn't a story, it was a poem called Star, it was shaped like a star and I wrote it for school.
What is your writing process?
It heavily involves music. I usually listen to music until I find a song that stirs my soul and build up that by whatever emotion the song invokes.
How do you approach cover design?
I think less is more. With covers I like to keep it simple, but use something that is important to me. Like the cover of a journal.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
1) The Bible, this should go without saying, but it is the life manual for all Christians.
2) Dean Koontz's The Watchers, first book that shouldn't have moved me to a complete all-out bawl at the end, but it did. I cried for hours.
3) Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre, that is the most romantic moving story I have ever read. I only wish I could have a love like that.
4) The Complete Works of Edgar Allen Poe. I like to think I could understand Poe's pain, I too suffer greatly.
5) I Love You by Robert Munsch. My amazing Mother gave me the book when I was 5 years old and to this day I cannot read the book without having to cry all day.
What do you read for pleasure?
I love non-fiction books. I like to dive into whatever topics I am wanting to learn about at the moment. So I will buy up tons of books on the subject and half I will never read.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My Samsung Tab 4. It is an extension of myself.
Describe your desk
It is an old dressing table that a family friend gave me when I was a child. Growing up it was in my playhouse with the original skirt on it. The drawer still smells like the original owners perfume. It is way too small, but super sentimental.
