Interview with Aren G. Olson

Published 2015-06-14.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I'm not writing I'm reading about current world events and the state of human consciousness. I've recently published a book titled "The Truth of Lucifer" and am doing what I can to promote myself. When I'm not preoccupied with those things I enjoy spending time outdoors and with my family. I also enjoy browsing YouTube.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I don't read ebooks. I prefer having an actual book in my hands. I find what I'm looking for by going to stores like Barnes and Noble.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Nope. I've written a lot of different things throughout my life, however the first story I shared with the public is on this site.
What is your writing process?
I don't really have a process. I write when the spirit strikes me. I started a blog to keep myself sharp and give the public a look into my thoughts. Whenever I write something I'm always going back and editing it. I'm somewhat of a perfectionist and I want my writings to be as clear and correct as possible.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I was in third grade. I don't remember the name of the series but it dealt with a tiny family and their adventures. I remember being so engulfed in the story I stopped realizing I was reading and envisioned myself in the story with them. It was the first time I ever had an experience like that and it gave me a new perspective on books.
How do you approach cover design?
I leave that to the professionals now. Working with a self publishing company helped broaden my horizons. There are certain things I'm not as good at as others and having help is always appreciated.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Fight Club, 1984, Johnny Got His Gun, World War Z, and Codependent No More.

I like books that challenge their readers to think and question our motives. I find psychology fascinating.
What do you read for pleasure?
Whatever strikes my fancy. I'm open to suggestions.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Don't have one.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
I've seen my book advertised on Yahoo! going through Page Publishing. Marketing as an unknown author is difficult. If anybody wants to help me out feel free to contact me.
Describe your desk
A bunch of tv trays set up around me with pens, notebooks, a dictionary, and what I'm currently reading for entertainment along with my water bottle and some M&M's. It's an organized mess.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in a small town in Minnesota. I think having a better education system than other areas in the country helped me, but I wouldn't say it influenced me.
