Interview with Chelsea Pagan

Published 2018-09-10.
When did you first start writing?
I first started writing in 7th grade. School assignments I hated, but creative writing...that opened up a whole new world, one that I preferred! Building those worlds carried me right through school and into adulthood.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
My major series, the Ariatless Chronicles, actually takes place in my home town in NY--the non-magical portions at least. The Chronicles are heavily influenced by my surroundings, regardless of whether that is my home town or the next one over--from the people around me that I make it a point to learn to understand, or to the geographic layout of the city and several of its landmarks.
What do you read for pleasure?
I read a wide range of Fantasy and Science Fiction and a mashup of the other genres. And I don't care how old I get, I'm still in love with teen fantasy/sci fi! I still read all my old childhood favorites!

Absolute favorites is Brandon Sanderson. Others include Naomi Novik, Margaret Atwood, Ursula K. LeGuinn, Orson Scott Card, Anne McCaffrey, Rachel Roberts, Patricia Wrede, Patricia Cornwell, Kim Harrison and plenty more!
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Five favorite books...well, for the sake of variety, I'm going to make some of these blanket statements that cover a series or an author:

#1: Anything by Brandon Sanderson! (Especially the Stormlight Series)

#2: The MaddAddam series by Margaret Atwood

#3: Avalon - Web of Magic by Rachel Roberts

#4: Dealing with Dragons by Patricia Wrede (Along with everything else she's written!)
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My phone! I prefer to jumble all of my electronics into one tiny package. Which I've managed to do on a pretty old school phone surprisingly.

Kindle is a close second though!
