Interview with Casey Ford

When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I usually can be found at work. I have a full-time job doing Graphic Arts. If I'm not there, and not writing, then I'm with my family. We like to go to the park and take walks, though it doesn't show in the gut.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I find them on goodreads.com or I have friends suggest them to me. I love to read so they know what to suggest.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, actually I do. It was a project in fourth grade where they gave us a sentence and we had to write a short story with that sentence being the opening line. I wrote three pages and everyone else wrote one. It's when I feel in love with writing.
What do you read for pleasure?
I read to escape. I love my family and my life in general... But sometimes it can get too much. Reading, and writing to the same degree. helps me forget my life problems and just live in another world or someone else's life for awhile.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Samsung Galaxy Tab with NOOK App... but there are few other e-reader apps I use as well for the different formats there are.
Describe your desk
Messy... I might actually get more writing and work done with I wasn't busy moving thing out of my way all the time. Good thing most of them are my research notes for whatever book I'm writing at the time.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I didn't have a stable home when I was growing up. I moved a lot. I think it effected my writing in that I have range of places I can choose from as a setting.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Getting the story out there and having people enjoy it. I'm not naive enough to think that everyone will like my stories, but having a few say they love them is what makes it worth it for me.
How do you approach cover design?
I like to think about the story and try to find a picture or look that captures the feeling or emotion of the book I wrote. I don't usually go for the eye catching or the one that will get the book sold. I want the cover to feel like an extension of the books core emotion.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing when I was in fourth grade, but it's always been just a hobby to me. I wrote more then a few short stories through out my life and only recently have I started writing novels.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Actually it was a fellow author that I befriended. She read some of my short stories I had posted online and she suggested I write a novel. She's been with me the entire time as a great friend and guide.
