Interview with Dee Jones

How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I search by author, new releases and interests.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yep! it was an obituary I wrote in elementary school. I died from choking on zucchini bread.
What is your writing process?
I go to my home in Florida or find a quiet place to write while sipping on wine or B52's.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck comes to mind. I wanted to read more and more.
How do you approach cover design?
First i decide what colors appeal to people in general. Then I go with visuals and fonts.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell. I am an Outlier and I love to know what makes a person who they are.

Magical Thinking by Augusten Burroughs. The book was a hoot and true and I'm drawn to the TRUTH.

The Color Purple by Alice Walker. I could visualize everything as I read.

Rule by Secrecy by jim Marrs. Its the book that inspired me to write Ain't THAT The Truth. Conspiracy theories, controversy, lies vs truth, the power of power. It is a fascinating book.

Buddha by Deepak Chopra. It's about leaving a comfort zone to find yourself and we all need to do this from time to time.
What do you read for pleasure?
books on tomfoolery like Video Vixen or affirmations, drama and horoscopes.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My Kindle Fire.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
I'm just getting started by I'll use my popularity, social media, network TV connections and event planning skills that have served me well since 1978. I used to put together and promote book signings for E. Lynn Harris before he passed away.
Describe your desk
In Florida, it's brown maple with 2 tiers. It sits alone in a newly renovated room with floors to match and a high back black chair. There is nothing else in the room except my laptop.
In Detroit, I have a vintage mahogany desk with upper and lower gold handled drawers. It has two legs on each side and the legs resemble claws. The computer monitor sits on the top level and my noisy keyboard and journal sit below it.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Detroit with a Black Jewish father and Bi-racial mother with 11 siblings and countless foster kids. Our neighbor hood was all encompassing. With every demographic and income level. I still have the same friends from childhood and their differences and the schools I've attended provided invaluable insight into how people are and why.
