Interview with S. Brown

Published 2018-01-10.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, It was in January 2017 on a dare. Most people say dares are dangerous. However, for me, it changed my life in an unexcepted way. I discovered that I loved to write. The story wasn't the best, and it has been re-edited several times since I wrote it. Soon I will have the best editing job on it and hopefully my last one. The Dreams: Will Set You Free by Sherrie Brown.
Describe your desk
My desk is two twin size mattresses and box springs turned on their side, leaning against the wall. I have a 3.5 foot by a 6-foot piece of wood laying on top of it. This gives me a lot of room to spread all my papers out on and not worry about making a mess.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
Where I grew up didn't really influence my writing as much as my fifth-grade teacher. She told me I would never a bale to write anything without a dictionary tied around my neck. So I never tried to write until recently when some dared me to write. That person was unable to undo all the damage a thoughtless teacher did to me as a child.
When did you first start writing?
January 2017 on a dare.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I have always loved the idea of time travel.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
A dare from a person who I was working with.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Hearing from people, especially when I hear things like, "I never thought I would like the book because that is not the genre I read. However, I enjoyed it and want to read more of them.
What are you working on next?
My next time travel will be set approximately 1500 Ireland with Pirates.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Knowing that if I want a rest from the stories playing out in my head, I need to write them down.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
With my husband or playing games on my phone. If I am stuck on a scene I will pull out a book and read a little bit.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Friends
What is your writing process?
Most of the time I have the story all worked out in my mind before I start to write. I make notes of thing I need to research and then I sit down at my laptop, put on the headphones, turn up the music and write down whatever comes to mind. Most of it has been playing on a loop in my mind for a couple of weeks before I begin writing.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
The first book I read for enjoyment was Firestarter by Stephen King and it scared me. The other one was The Funhouse by Dean Koontz and that one kept me awake for several nights. I was a teenager and I loved scary movies, but those books helped me realize that what you saw in your own mind from a description was often worse.
What do you read for pleasure?
It varies according to my mood.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Right now I have an iPad and an iPhone.
What do your fans mean to you?
Fans are very important. Without them, I would never know if my books were worth reading and my stories would be stuck in my head forever.
