Interview with Rebecca Conrad

Published 2013-12-19.
What is your writing process?
When I get an idea I usually think it out as fully as I can. I used to plan all my stories out on paper, character development and such. But as of recently I discuss my ideas with my hubby and usually get straight to work on writing something and just go with it as it flows onto the page. If I don't start work on a story idea right away I at least make detailed notes of the idea and characters that came to mind when the idea hit.
What do you read for pleasure?
I have a passion for romance of all kinds. I love horror as well. I don't read as often as I would like but when I do it's most likely, romance or poetry that I love the most, but am open to anything that sounds like a well written story.
Describe your desk
Funny question for me but I picked it because it made me laugh. My "desk" used to be as simple as a table top and some notebook paper. Yes I used to hand write all my stories, painstakingly so, but well worth the effort. My current desk is a tv tray and my laptop...yup simple but works for this mom of two.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Ohio and honestly don't know that the area influenced my writing as much as people have. I base my stories and poems on what I feel and my own experiences in life, and the things I love. I don't think I have ever written even one story that didn't include some sort of romantic aspect. I am and probably always will be a hopeless romantic.
When did you first start writing?
I have always dabbled in writing. I loved English class in school and took a huge liking to poetry. I began writing poems at about 13 and began to write seriously when it comes to novels when I was about 22 or so. My detective series is a long standing work that I have put my heart and soul into from the moment I created Jordan Kade and the world around her.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I am actually working on more than one project. One novel is a work of erotica, another a historical romance, and lastly a vampire novel that I am working on making into a series.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I have wanted to become a published author for a little over ten-twelve years now. I worked long and hard hours to perfect my novel series involving Detective Kade. I feel it is one of my very best works and I hope to gain a readership who loves my creations as much as I do. All those years working on stories that only my hubby and myself have read, it only made sense in finding smashwords that I get my stories out there to be shared and loved.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Diving into the world and characters that I create. It may sound a bit funny but when I proof a book or even simply re read my own work, i get a smile on my face and get just as deeply involved in the story as I would one written by someone else.
