How do you approach cover design?
The cover is an important component of the book and so much effort needs to be made to ensure that it does not turn off potential buyer of the book. It should therefore be professionally done. I let professional handle my cover design.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
My favorite books:
1. Wake up and live by Dorothea Brande : This book is one of the greatest books in the world
2. Bring out the magic in your mind by Al Koran
3. The Path of the Masters, by Julian Johnson
4. The Act of Will by Roberto Assagioli
5. A Treatise of White Magic by Alice Bailey
These books leave a great impression on my mind and impact on my life.
What do you read for pleasure?
For pleasure, I read poems, short stories and novels.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I have kindle, IPad mini, and nook. I enjoy reading on my Ipad mini. It enables me to read ebooks in several formats.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Word of mouth is good but there is a limit to where one man can reach, but the social network has geared up the capacity and reach of the word of mouth. Search engine ads is also a possible marketing technique.
Describe your desk
My desk is a circular wooden table with a printer at one end, a large screen in front connected with a HP laptop which is rarely moved. I write mostly by typing.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Ibadan, Nigeria but I have had a good opportunity to visit and leave in several countries - Ethiopia, United States, United Kingdom, The intellectual stimulus of Ibadan, with the experience at the Nigeria Premier University - the University of Ibadan - added with the travel experience gives me an indepth view of life and human existence, informing my writing.
When did you first start writing?
Apart from compositions written in the secondary school, I actually started writing short stories, poems, articles for newspapers and longer stories from 1984.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest book is a collection of articles, poems and short stories published in newspapers. As I was looking at the newspaper clips, I found out that most of the issues addressed remain relevant long after they had been published and so decided to bring them together in a collection. The whole idea is to increase the power of each writing by pooling them together -- connecting the dots.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
The world is changing. The days of the powerful middleman (publishers) created by ineffective technology is going away. Authors are being increasingly empowered, and I feel I need to be empowered as well.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords gives the resources to create multiple formats of the book from one input. This is an important help in producing ebooks that should be consumed by different readers using different devices.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The freedom to express ideas and the ability to influence people and situations. A friend once remarked that the smoothest path to immortality is to write because he who has written continues to talk to generation long after he has died physically.
What do your fans mean to you?
Everyone needs the encouragement that comes from the love and respect given by the fans. I love everyone who has given time to love me and I respect them all. I would never take my fans for granted. They mean the world to me.
