Interview with Bryce Cameron

What do you read for pleasure?
I'm a big fan of mystery novels as well as reading biographies. There is something fascinating about human life and understanding what makes successful people tick. I love learning how some of my idols got to their highest point and how they overcome their lowest.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My kindle fire is my go to device to read anything whether it be a book, an audiobook, or my favorite magazines.
When did you first start writing?
I was always interested in writing as a child but I think around tenth and eleventh grade I really started to recognize that there was a special talent there. I have to accredit my teachers at the time for encouraging me to go for it because having positive reinforcement is huge for me and without it I don't know where I would be.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My upcoming book titled Young Summer is a reimagined version of real life event that took place in the summer of 2016. A lot went down in both my personal and professional lives and I think it would be a disservice to myself and to those who follow my work to not put it all out there.
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans mean the absolute world to me. I love all of the support that I receive and whether it's one of my writing projects or my late night talk show or my podcast, people around me send so much love and encouragement my way and I send all of it back to them times a million. Absolutely warms my heart.
What are you working on next?
My next project is going to be a series of "open letters" to various people that I've encountered in my life thus far. It's been really cathartic so far to express feelings to these people that I hadn't done so in real life whether it be out of fear or they just aren't around anymore.
Who are your favorite authors?
My absolute favorite author on the planet is Ellen Hopkins. That woman is a pure genius and a true inspiration for my work.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
The ability to connect with readers but not be bound to the conformoties of mainstream publication. I love being able to make the rules and I think there's more freedom to create what my fans want to see.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I'm able to create these alternative universes that I otherwise wouldn't have the opportunity to explore. The characters become like friends and family and I like being able to be invested in their lives and outcomes.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Making change in the world. Big or small, it's always my goal each and every day. If I can change one thing and leaving a lasting positive impact in some way than everything I do is worth it. One positive reaction to the things I do makes it all worthwhile to me.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I'm obsessed with television! I am a pop culture expert and so proud of it. I like watching TV because my writer's mind really comes into play and it's like a playground for me and my greatest joy.
