Interview with Beanie Lei

Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Yes - it was a retelling of Disney's 'Bambi' which my mum used to read to me! It all came together one day; all the words I was seeing on the page connected with the words in my head and on my tongue, and I offered to read to her so that she didn't have to tire herself out reading to me. I think she felt the impact of this more than I did!
How do you approach cover design?
When I first started designing my covers, I 'felt' my way around my story to find a picture which I thought was suitable. I then read and realised from the Smashwords Guides that my approach was hit-and-miss. Some of my covers were personal, unique, and even good-looking, while others were rather naff and even led to my books being classified incorrectly. If you happen to find my various covers for 'The Prophecy' and 'The Vision' on Instagram and Goodreads, you will see what I mean!
What are your five favorite books, and why?
I do not have any yet, as I am constantly reading!
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Blagging about my books on Twitter and Instagram has been very effective for me, followed by writing on my blog. I also believe that my book covers play a part, too, with some being more effective than others.
Describe your desk
It is an absolute tip, with my PC forming an island surrounded by a sea of papers, notes, and pens! I'm one of those fortunate people who cannot find anything in a tidy room, and who must rely on having everything I need to work with in full view in front of me.
