Interview with Kevin B. Davis

What do you read for pleasure?
For fiction, I've been reading Stephen King since I was a preteen, and I'm looking forward to some of his audiobooks as we make a long drive soon. I also really enjoy the Scarpetti novels by Patricia Cornwell, and the occasional humor.

Nonfiction books tend to be where I spend most of my time reading. I'm an entrepreneur, so I spend a lot of time reading business related books about marketing, sales, and growing business.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I either use my original Kindle (which I keep next to the bed), or my Kindle app on my iPad.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
As a new author, I'm still developing my tactics, but I'm currently having success with a new sweepstakes giveaway through WooHoo on Facebook and Twitter.
Describe your desk
I have a large custom home office that we built when we built our home 10 years ago. The biggest feature on my desk is that it's covered with technology. I have 2 huge 28" LCD monitors side by side for my normal work, as well as a laptop off to the side. Because I need to use both Windows and Mac, I have a Mac Mini and monitor over to the other side.

I try to keep my desk organized, which requires a lot of work.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Oklahoma and Texas, all over really. I can't say it has influenced my writing a great deal other than making it a point early on to learn proper grammar, and to diligently pursue a non-accented speaking style.
When did you first start writing?
I've been writing short stories since I was a kid, and have been blogging non-fiction topics for 5-6 years. I recently released my first nonfiction book, which was a major endeavor, and I look forward to writing additional how-to books in the future.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The book is a how-to book about integrating Technology into Homeschool. So many homeschool families are not currently using technology to the fullest, and I hope this book will help them to understand and use it more effectively, not only to help their curriculum, but also to help connect parents and students better.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I'm a generalist, a guy that sort of knows a little bit about a lot of different things, and I feel like there are a few topics where I know enough about to produce some great books so that I can share that knowledge with others.
What are you working on next?
I'm working on a new book about purchasing, running, and using vacation rental homes. We have been successful with our own home in Orlando, and I'm anxious to share that knowledge and experience with other families to help them do the same!
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Our family has been in the "why not" mode of living for many years now, and we continue to do that. We live our lives in such a way that we try to make good decisions, but we don't limit ourselves to doing the status quo. We typically hear "really?" when we describe what we're up to next.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I run several businesses, from web development to automotive detailing and restoration. I spend a lot of time with my family doing all sorts of things including travel, play, and just hanging out. Cars are one of my passions, and I spent most of my free time building and racing my 1965 Cobra.
