Interview with Michael Bialys

How do you approach cover design?
People do judge a book by it's cover. If they didn't the expression, "Don't judge a book by its cover," would not exist. Cover needs to be eye catching, thought provoking and relate in some way to the character or plot line. Your cover is your hook, it has to scream look at me, and then if all goes well read me!
What is your writing process?
Often I dream it, or get a book idea in the shower and i just begin to write. I don't judge it, or think too much about i just put it down on the page. I have all the time in the world to revise, but the idea and the flow. momentum can be lost to overthinking. Just put it down. No one else will see it or judge it what do you have to lose?
What do you read for pleasure?
I am a huge comic book fan. I love my X-men and I tend to lean toward Marvel, but a good comic book and I am happy. I enjoy Robert Ludlum, and Dan Brown when it comes to fiction. In the Non-Fiction world I love History and Biography in general.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Probably the computer itself.
Describe your desk
Organized Chaos! I have a lot on their but i know where everything is...i think.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Toronto, Canada. I live in California now. I guess that gives me a little bit more of a global perspective, with exposure to some Anglo/Franco influences from Canada. I also have some cultural influences that I try to infuse, in a word, "hockey."
When did you first start writing?
I have been a composer/lyricist sine 13 or 14 that's when writing really began for me
What's the story behind your latest book?
I began writing it as a short story making my daughter Makenna the star of the story. i t was intended as a gift for her to help her feel special. well one thing led to another and.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I just wanted to get the story out and i don't think their is better time for idependant authors to release and exploit thee work
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Another great platform to release my book!
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The reaction of the readers!!!!!
What are you working on next?
Well since you know that I just released the 1st 2 books in the series there is a 3rd I am currently working on the Chronicles of the Virago
Book III
Who are your favorite authors?
Dan Brown
Robert Ludlum
Stan Lee
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
I would have to say my family I'm crazy about them and when we're out together having fun everything is perfect.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I have a law practice. I am a licensed attorney in California but I also write and produce music.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Often through recommendations that sometimes if I'm in Barnes & Noble I'll see something that catches my eye and I might download it
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Interestingly enough
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
The 1st time I actually sat down to write the story it ended up becoming this series. I'm not going to say that I hadn't written before but I really never sat down to try to formulate a story and the 1st time I did the story became books...
What are your five favorite books, and why?
I have to start out by saying I'm a comic book fanatic I love the graphics in the art but I also love the stories they portray if I'm looking at a novelist I like Dan Brown because he meshes real history with fiction and I enjoy that.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
I think I Probably employ the typical methods social media Facebook Instagram whatever else I can think of and quite frankly I'm probably not the most savvy at it ,but the one thing I do do, Is send out author copies to anybody that I feel I might want to be an agent a producer of the film rights or anybody who I respect in the entertainment industry who I would like them to read the book.
What do your fans mean to you?
Everything and that is not an understatement. There is no better feeling in the world and having somebody thousands of miles away read something you created and comment on how it's in obtain them where they found something that you wrote funny. Immediately connects you to a complete Stranger and you all the sudden now have a connection to someone that you never would have had.
