Published 2018-10-06.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Creativity makes me happier than anything else. Consequently I keep busy writing new stories and songs. I also have a website with over 200 blogs and am constantly trying to add more. I also read constantly and have over 500 books reviewed on Goodreads. My Dead Celebrities videos on You Tube have over 2.8 million views. I also spend a lot of time on Twitter promoting my stories and songs. I also am producing new songs and have 48 for sale on Itunes.
Who are your favorite authors?
Stephen King, Ray Bradbury, Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, John Sandford, Michael Connelly, Robert B. Parker , Clive Cussler, James Patterson, Jeffery Deaver, Dean Koontz, Edgar Allen Poe, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, James Lee Burke, Richard Matheson, Lee Child, Jack Ketchum & Jack Kilborn/Konrath.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I have a subscription to Audible and receive two new books a month. I also get free books on our local library system to supplement audible.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
After reading a story by Ray Bradbury entitled The October Game in an Alfred Hitchcock antlology, I wrote a story of my own initially titled The Cloaked Avenger. This story evolved through the years and it is included in my first horror collection, Black As Night, which is also the current name of my original story.
What is your writing process?
I watch a lot of TV and movies and read a lot of books. I also look at the table of contents on other author's works trying to find ideas for new stories. Sometimes a title will give me a idea. Once I have an a starting point, the story often writes itself.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
As I mentioned earlier, The October Game by Ray Bradbury inspired me.
How do you approach cover design?
I start by finding an image that moves me in hopes it will attract others.
What do you read for pleasure?
Constantly. I never read for anything else.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I listen to books on my Iphone.
Describe your desk
I have a Imac and a HP all in one printer with a file cabinet on one side a storage cabinet on the other. I have a closet full of writing stuff and a wall to wall bookcase filled with books.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up about seven miles south of Alexandria, Va. In the third grade, I started writing adventure serials with six chapters all with cliffhanger endings trying to emulate TV shows popular back then. A classmate who sat behind me liked my stories and kept asking me for more. He made me think I had talent, and he's probably why I'm still writing today.
When did you first start writing?
In the third grade.
What are you working on next?
I'm working on my eleventh collection of short stories. So far I've written 177 stories.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
In my favorite genre, horror, the ones that come to mind are: The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty, The Shining by Stephen King, Horror Stories by Jack Kilborn, Night Shift by Stephen King, The Ice Limit by Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child.
