Interview with Birdie Sena

Published 2014-03-11.
When did you first start writing?
I first started writing when I was a teenager. I found it easier to tell a piece of paper how I felt about something than to tell someone else. This way there was no judgement involved or no one trying to fix a decision I made. It was just a form of venting without criticism.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Heroin became my devil is a story about the effects of Heroin addiction and how close it hit to home for me. It describes how badly the drug destroys not only the addict but the family members as well.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I enjoy writing because it gives me an out. A way to vent and say what's on my mind. Usually it stops me from taking my frustrations out on those around me.
What are you working on next?
Now I'm working on a book titled Life Of A Dysfunctional Single Parent. It's based off my blog and another avenue for me to vent about the things that are going on in my life.
Who are your favorite authors?
My favorite author by far is Dean Koontz. Every book he's written, I've read. My favorite is Watchers and Door to December.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My kids inspire me to get out of bed everyday. No matter if they go through something good or something bad my love for them remains the same and they are the strength I need to keep plugging through my life as dysfunctional as it is. They give me the courage to continue fighting.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When i'm not writing I'm looking for a real "big girl" job, a new home, because hotel life is not for me and I mess around with making jewelry and designing "treasure boxes" Custom made wood boxes that I sell locally, so far.
What is your writing process?
My writing process is anything but normal. I blog a lot. When I get frustrated I grab a pen and paper or my phone with several writing apps on it and I write until what I feel is a temper tantrum, is over. Then down the road I go back and read through what I've said and that normally gives me what I want to turn it into a book. I can't wait for the day I have a book about how amazing life is.
