Interview with A.L. Gibson

Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes. I was about eight years old and it was about my favorite doll, Nina Hunny.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Yes, it was The Color Purple. That story tugged at my heart strings in more ways than one. I knew at that moment, whenever I got the chance, I would aim to be a writer.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
My desire to have free range over the things I write. I love being able to write freely and having total control over my material. Not to mention, I don't have to worry about outside influences or pressing deadlines.
Describe your desk
Neat and clear of clutter. I cannot write with a bunch of junk around, that will only distract me.
What is your writing process?
I honestly do not have one. Whenever an idea hits me or a good story line hits me, I pull out my pen, my paper and I just write. So far, it seems to work for me.
How do you approach cover design?
I always want my book covers to match and reflect the themes of my stories.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
My blog, word of mouth and the occasional Google AdWords. Twitter for some reason barely works for me.
What are you working on next?
My second novel.
What do your fans mean to you?
Everything. They are the reasons why I write and why I will continue to write. What is the point of writing if there is no one to read it?
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Being able to write stories that inspire and give hope to readers who may not have had any hope prior to reading one of my stories. That to me, makes writing worth my while.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Samsung, hands down.
What do you read for pleasure?
I enjoy reading memoirs and of course, poetry.
