Interview with Professor Philo T.

What do you read for pleasure?
. I read everything I can, but my own personal favorites are books and articles on finance, biographies, horror, metaphysics, the occult, and Ring Magazine. I also try to keep up with current events, politics, and the "American Scene" by reading MAD Magazine......I can think of no better way to rub elbows with the rest of the populace.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I have to confess I read much more printed books than e-books. I guess I'm from the old school where I like to turn pages of actual paper, rather than use a Kindle or other device. As an added bonus there's also no danger of electric shock should I accidently drop the damn thing in the bathtub.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Considering that as of this interview I've yet to sell a single copy, I'd have to answer .....none.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I'm a total research junkie. Unlike many authors I actually enjoy investigating, sleuthing, and uncovering every single tidbit and fact there is to know about the subject I'm writing about.
Who are your favorite authors?
Rod Serling, William Goldman, Larry Doyle, David Niven (YES, that David Niven. He actually did write several novels, as well as act), Laurie Cabot, as well as a host of others whose names escape me at the moment, but I'm sure will become crystal clear 5 seconds after I hit the publish button.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
That tragic part of life which says that if I want to get my paycheck I actually have to show up for work.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
It was "PINOCCHIO." I actually memorized the entire book and could quote from it verbatim when I was 3 years old. I found that I had a photographic memory for things that really interested me, and which I enjoyed reading. Unfortunately my school text books weren't one of them.
Describe your desk
At the present it's my kitchen table, but I hope to upgrade once I (hopefully) make some sales.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I was born in Brooklyn, grew up in Valley Stream Long Island, got bored with that, moved back to Brooklyn, and finally wound up in the mountains of Upstate NY near Phoenicia. I guess this makes me a real Son of the Northeast.
What do your fans mean to you?
When I actually GET any I'll be able to give you a more precise answer.
What are you working on next?
It's a book on Death which I'm really, really excited about. It's going to cover all the questions we've ever had about dying and the afterlife, but without all the mysticism and self-aggrandizement. Believe me, it's unlike any other book you've ever read on the topic and I can't wait to get it completed.
What is your writing process?
Like most authors I aspire to create a story in a structured, chronological arrangement, but unfortunately I find this isn't always feasible. After I finish my writing session I will then go about my business, wait for any sudden flashes of super-conscious brilliance and insight to hit me.....which will usually occur when I'm nowhere near a laptop, quickly write it all down on whatever's handy at the moment (usually a napkin, unanswered traffic summons, or unused tissue) and then transfer it ASAP to my laptop.
What are your favorite movies?
My top 5 favorites in no particular order are, GOODFELLA'S, EASY RIDER, THE GRADUATE, BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES, and NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD.
