Interview with Lizzie Bowen

What are you working on next?
A sequel to Forever Seventeen which is life after All4U from Kade's perspective and a completely different book called Chloe.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Music, writing, Jesus, and habachi. I'm sort of in love with that restauraunt like I'll doodle it's name on my paper and sing about it. It's sort of the love of my life.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I'm trying to teach myself to play guitar, I also am taking piano lessons, I made my community theater cast as one of the leads, and I like to sit and watch this drama called "Heartland" I sit in the dark and scream at my television... and cry a little bit too. I'm hooked. But I also get in a lot of trouble so it's best I don't have spare time. One time I took a wheelchair I found at my school and decided to run it up and down the hallway in front of the security cameras (cause that seemed like a bright idea at the time) then I decided it would be an even better idea to haul it up three flight of stairs and ride it down the slanted hallway. Long story is short, I ended up snapping the leg off... that took some explaining. I don't actually know who's it was. It was never claimed. I also screamed at a six year old that Santa wasn't real, buuut he started it cause he called me an idiot AND stupid. (Seriously, who does he think he is?!) But I got in really big trouble for that one.
What is your writing process?
If it's natural, the ideas flow to me, and the events all tie into one another then I know I've got a winner. If it's awkward, I feel like I'm rambling, and I feel like I have to drag it on just to fill pages then I stop. If I'm not enjoying writing it then nobody is going to enjoy reading. I also try to write about things I'm passionate about because then my fingers just go flying and I can't seem to stop myself.
When did you first start writing?
Probably about second grade. The teacher would ask for a page journal entry and I'd give four. I always wanted to go the extra mile when it came to writing and I guess that's when I thought it might be my field to work in.
What's the story behind your latest book?
It's about a severe bullying victim who looses it and attacks everyone she ever feels has fallen guilty to her mistreatment. She gets expelled from school and doesn't know quite what to do with the rest of her life. She uses her musical background to her advantage and auditions as guitar player for this MASSIVELY popular boyband. Then, when she makes it Mr. playboy Hunter Thompson takes a very special liking to her. She's so damaged and so freaked out when it happens. I mean, how can the hottest guy on earth like her when she can't even seem to like herself? But just when she thinks she's got the idea of being linked to Hollywood's It Boy another guy comes around and turns her life upside down once again. She doesn't have much time for the whole love scene anyway with her alcoholic brother, mother issues, and constant haters. But one of these two boys might just change that forever.
What's your grossiest memory?
Okay, so this is nasty, but one time I was at my friend's birthday party and I clogged a friend's toilet. I didn't know what to do since I had clogged it the year before and her sister had to do the dirty work. I looked everywhere for a plunger, but couldn't find one. There was a huge line and they were all knocking on the door and I absolutely HATE to be rushed. So... I used my hands. IT WAS HORRIBLE!!!! But I washed them for like ten minutes after.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I like how sometimes I can't really put what I'm feeling into words, but then I'll sit down at a computer and I seem to be able to start writing feelings and emotions I didn't even know lived inside me. It gets pretty deep, bro.
What's your craziest childhood memory?
Well, there was this one time where we decided we were going to stack up chairs and crawl into our church's baptism tub. I was wearing a dress that day of course because it was Sunday so if we got caught crawling up into it not only would I be flashing our crime investigators I would also be in huge trouble. I found a wheelchair at my friend's house another time and we decided to drive it down people's driveways well I went down this really steep one and she started to stand in front of me (as if that would stop me) i went anyway and she jumped out just in time I went so fast that I went across the road, up this little hill, and into the neighbor's yard. It was so fun!
What do your fans mean to you?
Everything. The world.
Who's your best friend/supporter?
I don't know. It changes a lot. I won't lie, I think I usually really like a person, but can't really tell them that. After a time, they sort of get sick of that lack of emotion and leave. But leaving is okay with me. I don't miss people much. But my friend Maddie and I have been through a lot together. I broke her swing that she's had for YEARS... guess I ate one too many cheetos. It seriously like snapped under my butt. I also almost died as her house. I went way up high on her driveway and drove a ripstick down it, but I went so fast that I went to her backyard and she has this huge cliff there and I almost drove right off it! Her mom was freaking out, but I was just sitting there cracking up laughing,
What are your five favorite books, and why?
The last song, Christy Millers saga, Conspiracy 365 books, Tim Teboow: through my eyes, and Soul Surfer. I won't lie. Writing has totally ruined the reading world for me. Now that I have the entire world at my fingertips I just can't seem to make myself sit down and read. It's because now I'm forced to read what other's have put on the page when I could be out in my own little world that I can control. It's like being in a universe you created compared to having to be stuck in someone else's and just do whatever they say because they have complete control. I like to be in control. But I love "The Last Song" so much and it's one of the only books I actually thought about re-reading. Nicholas Sparks is such a talented author and I aspire to be like him. The Christy Millers series is the only one I've read all the way through. It's amazing and addicting. I love how it has such good morals too. That's hard to find in a book today.
