Interview with Brian Hutchinson

How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
I am not really sure yet. I used Smashwords to publish my second book, Krayburn Hollw, a collection of short stories to help generate awareness of my work.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
It has to be when the plot unfolds before my eyes. When I sit down to write a new story, I have no idea what I am about to write. I just write. It is an amazing feeling when it starts to come together.
What do your fans mean to you?
Without my fans, I am nothing. I am a fan of many things: books, video games, movies, life, etc.. I try to write gripping stories without any gaps or inconsistencies.
What are you working on next?
Currently, I am in the editing stages of Locmire's Quest: Book Two.
Who are your favorite authors?
This is cliché, but I love Stephen King, George R.R. Martin, Brent Weeks, Orson Scott Card, and Tolkien.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My family. I owe so much to them.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I love spending time with my family, playing video games, hunting, fishing, and relaxing.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Most of the stuff I read is mainstream, but occasionally someone will recommend a new read to me.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes. Locmire's Quest: Book One. That was a little over a year ago.
What is your writing process?
I write when I can. My best writing comes when I have a empty house, which is rare. I love spending evenings on my front porch with a cup of coffee and my laptop. Most of my writing is done at night, after the kids go to bed.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I cannot remember the first story I ever read, probably a Dr. Seuss book, but the first story to have a real impact on me was Dean Koontz's Intensity. That story freaked me out, however, I did not like the movie.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Wow. Hard decision, but here goes.
1. Dark Tower series. Stephen King's finest. Need I say more?
2.Night Angel Trilogy. Loved these books from Brent Weeks. Very intriguing.
3. Game of Thrones. I love the characters and plot twists.
4. LOTR. Fine piece of literature.
5. Wizard's First Rule. One of my all time favorites.
What do you read for pleasure?
Anything that takes me out of this world.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Kindle
