Interview with Robert A Webster

Published 2013-12-21.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Hiding... Being lazy has, and always will be, my ultimate ambition. I am a true master at doing bugger-all, so I spend my time hiding from work. Writing is now the only thing I do and that's because it involves sitting down for hours at a time with an excuse.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
The first story I wrote was Buddha's Tooth. I later changed the title to Siam Storm as most people thought it was about religion, several even thought it had dental connotations. Mind you, it was well received and people loved it...Even dentists.
What do you read for pleasure?
Playboy...Doesn't every bloke?
When did you first start writing?
In 2006, while living on Koh Larn, a small island off Pattaya on the eastern seaboard of Thailand. I thought about the plot while taking a daily 40 minute ferry journey to the mainland to do my daily shopping. I then wrote down the story on my return, while sitting in my lazy-boy for the evening; drinking beer and wearing my sarong to get air circulating around my gonads
What's the story behind your latest book?
A sequel to the paranormal thriller PATH.
Next, is set in the not too distant future. The characters are a little older, but a lot wiser. They are forced into quests to decide the fate of humankind. These quests are more of lessons to be learned in order to safeguard planet earth for .... Oh, I'm giving the plot away and I don't want to spoil it for you
What motivated you to become an indie author?
No bugger else would have me.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
I just started with Smashwords, it is therefore difficult to judge at present. But from what I've heard and what has occurred so far ( One book sold on its first day) I feel that it will be a great partnership.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy of writing is that it takes me into a fun filled world where I can do what I want. Laugh, cry, fly, go into a jungle or laze on a sunny beach, and have the adventures of a lifetime... Similar to my real life really, well the lazing part is
What do your fans mean to you?
I don't think I have any... I'm no David Beckham you know.
However, if I did have they would mean a great deal and might even take care of me in my old age... Just a thought.
What are you working on next?
I am currently working on Increasing the size of my butt crease in my sofa. I am also working on being even lazier, especially with the run up to the holiday season because there is loads of good stuff on the telly
Who are your favorite authors?
I enjoyed reading Douglas Adams books. A sadly missed, funny writer whose work will never age. Clive Cussler and Dan Brown are excellent and thoughful adventure writers. I admit that I haven't, and don't read a great deal of books. I get more enjoyment out of writing them
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Breaking wind...Unfortunately my Missus eats spicy Khmer food before bedtime...Lovely woman, just ripe in the morning bless her.
