Interview with Robert Paul Bacher

Describe your desk
Hah, my desk is in constant state of clutter and clean.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
While growing up, I never thought I'd write a book on health. Growing up was all about playing sports. Writing was last on the list of things to do.
When did you first start writing?
I started to write health blogs after I retired. Each blog was 2-4 pages long.
What's the story behind your latest book?
In reading about our health care system, I got angry at the fact that my kids would have a shorter lifespan than me. As I researched the health care subject more I realized that our system is not as great as people think. Then I came to the realization, we don't even need a good health care system if we took better care of ourselves. The answer to fixing our health cares system is changing our behaviors. Easy said than done. As a leader in industry for more than 30 years, in manufacturing , R&D, and business units, I developed a good skill set in leadership and behavioral change. So I wrote the book with a focus of how can I help others develop their leadership, planning and execution skills to create a healthy lifestyle.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
An indie author can be more independent in sharing their thoughts and approaches. My book is not a mainstream health lifestyle book.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords gives me another avenue of people to reach. Success is not defined by how many people who read the book but by how many people have changed and are healthier as a result . If just a few people take advantage of the lessons learned in the book, I feel the effort was worthwhile.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy of writing occurs when people say that the book/blog made a difference in their lives.
Who are your favorite authors?
I read a variety of books mostly fiction. I like mystery adventure novels and authors like Douglas Preston and Lincoln Childs, plus Steve Berry, David Wood, David Goleman and I am a big Star Wars fan. I mix up the novels with non fiction biographies, health nutritional books and stories like Hidden Figures, Unbroken, The Shack and others.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I volunteer at senior centers and do travelogues. My hobbies are water color painting, photography, travel and visiting our grand children.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I search for authors and subjects and look at the introduction. I am always looking for new authors to add to the list of ones I have not read.
How do you approach cover design?
I approach my sons who are more creative than me and ask for their advice.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I have a tablet that I use for my e-reading.
