Interview with Carmen Briggs

Who are your favorite authors?
Rick Riordan, Veronica Roth, James Dashner, Chris Colfer, J.K. Rowling, and Suzanne Collins.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Breakfast.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
If I'm not writing, I'm reading. Plain and simple.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
It was about a girl who found a shiny penny on the ground. I even illustrated it.
What is your writing process?
Write and don't stop until you're finished. Once you're done, go back and edit. It saves time and is way better that writing and re-writing.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Can't say that I have just 5 favorites, but if I must. It's the Land of Stories series, by Chris Colfer. I've always been in love with the idea of fairytales becoming reality, and this is the perfect series to read if you are into that.
What do you read for pleasure?
Percy Jackson and The Land of Stories series. And lots of others, but I won't have time to write them all.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
None, I live for the smell of new books.
Describe your desk
Ususally there's lots of papers for English assignments on it, and I have a ton of notebooks with my story ideas in them.
What's the story behind your latest book?
This is set in the future, so here we go. The United States has come up with an initiative where all the newest 10 year olds are taken to a small, deserted island to fight and train, sort of like an army. If you aren't progressing fast enough, you get executed. A little girl is transfered there and finds her long-lost sister, who tries to find a way out of the training center and the island.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
