Interview with Catherine Banks

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Writing itself is the greatest joy for me. I love being able to write stories and create characters that people love or hate.
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans mean EVERYTHING to me! Without my fans I would not have reached my goals! Thank you to all of my fans!
What are you working on next?
I'm working on Book 3 of the Little Death Bringer Series as well as a new story that I will write during this year's NaNoWriMo.
Who are your favorite authors?
Ilona Andrews is my absolute favorite! I also love Patricia Briggs, Richelle Mead, and Kelley Armstrong. Robert Frost is my favorite poet.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I read a lot, play with my kids, spend time with my husband, or work.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I use Goodreads and recommendations from friends and family. Share your favorite books on Facebook so that others will have the joy of reading that book as well!
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I wrote my first story when I was four years old. I couldn't write yet so I told the story to my grandma and she wrote it on the computer for me. It was a story about two sisters, George Strait, and their horse ranch.
What is your writing process?
Sometimes I plan out stories, the basic plot points, but most of the time I think of a character or a situation and I just write. I let the characters do what they will and even though they go in a different direction than I normally would have, I write their story and see what happens.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
I can't pinpoint specific books, but I will tell you my favorite series. Kate Daniels is my all time favorite, but anything by Ilona Andrews is amazing. Percy Jackson & The Olympians is another of my favorite and that's YA. Patricia Briggs' Mercy Thompson Series and Holly Black's The Modern Faerie Tales are also great.
What do you read for pleasure?
I read fantasy mainly, but I also read series like Divergent, and some sci-fi. Fantasy just really interests me and I love how dynamic the stories are and how many different species and elements there are to them all.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Sacramento, California, but when I was young I grew up in a country home where I played outside in the dirt with my animals and rode horses after school. I have always loved horses and country life. As a teenager I spent most of my time in the city and as an adult as well, which changed me and my writing a little. I think growing up in a small community helped me to be able to write in those scenarios and I think also helps me write how a werewolf community might act since they would be tightly connected.
