Interview with Christian Appasamy

How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Mostly when I browse the different genres on Amazon, but there are also cases that I notice one on Facebook or Twitter, which interested me.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Of course I do. It was a small adventure of Superman saving Micky Mouse in the world of Duck Tales. Pity, but it got lost during the years.
What is your writing process?
I don't have a normal writing process. When an idea flashes up in my mind I write it down on a piece of paper that is close to me, no matter if it is a bill or something similar. Most of the time I forget about it later and when I start to sort out my paperwork I rediscover them and start creating a book with the texts/poems/lyrics.
While working on such a book I start writing additional texts and can spend hours with creating and writing.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
No. As kids our parents where reading or telling Good-Night-Stories every night. We children were surrounded by stories. Somewhen I started to discover the books of my father and started reading it. But what was the first story ever I read, I have no idea.
How do you approach cover design?
I let cbvisions photography design my covers.
Ok after the company is me it is me who creates my covers. There is no routine or anything like that. Normally I have an idea already while writing and I run for that.
What are your two favorite books, and why?
"Bag of Bones" by Stephen King - I simply love the storyline.
"Dracula" by Bram Stoker - I like the historical character of the story.
What do you read for pleasure?
Normally some crime stories, historical fiction and lots of Fantasy and Horror a la Stephen King, James Herbert. And I love the books of Robert Louis Stevenson.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My laptop with the kindle app and the adobe readers app. But I don't like to read ebooks, I need a real book in my hand, feel it, smell it.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Twitter - I don't know why but twitter is working well for me - as same as trailer and video clips on youtube.
Describe your desk
I don't have one, I normaly use the dinner table or put the laptop on my knees while being in bed.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I was born in Ahrensburg, a small northern town in West-Germany, and Hamburg, Germany. For sure the conflicts of the cold war had a big influence on me, the fear of war, the nearby East-Germany showed me who short life can be and that we should do the best we can to have the topmost fun. But also living close to two seas created the man I am today.
But apart from my childhood, all the places I have lived influenced me in my life.
