Interview with Chandrapal Khasiya

Published 2016-09-25.
When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
Honestly, this may sound bit poetic, but writing is like healing to me. When you are in school, and during the boring lecture, instead of doodling if you are scribbling some random crazy thoughts at the back pages of your notebook, congratulations, there is a writer in you. Same happened with me.
How long does it take you to write Coffee Chronicles?
The idea was developed a month ago, and I started working on it piece by piece. So it nearly took 2 weeks to write the first draft. Then I realized I can do better, and deleted the entire draft, and again began from the scratch. The output is better and more satisfying than the initial planned storyline.
What is your work schedule like when you're writing?
There is no fixed schedule for me for writing. At first, I thought the night time was the best for me, but when life started getting hectic, I realized I should be working on my stories whenever I get the free slot. For Coffee Chronicles, during day I typed the rough scenes on my phone, and at night I compiled them chronologically. I believe ideas are infinite and their nature is radical, so whenever there is a flash of thought, I note it down on my notes.
As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?
Like most of the children I too wanted to be an astronaut. Just kidding, I was inclined toward computers, and there was a dramatic twist in my life, and I am really glad that occurred or else I would not be interviewed at this moment. Somewhere I read, to reach morning you first need to pass through the shadows. I guess I've passed through it, now everything seems bright and beautiful to me. Really happy of what I am today. Next question?
What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?
Brilliant question. When I started devising storylines I focused myself on originality. Yes, I am heavily influenced with works of J.R.R Tolkien, Brandon Sanderson, Patrik Rothfuss, J.K. Rowling and many more, and each of these revered authors are respected for their uniqueness. So just like them, not implying I want to be like them, but I do want create original works. The most surprising things I learned while writing is that with every story I am discovering myself. Sounds philosophical, but it does happen. I hope this answer is satisfying.
Do you hear from your readers much? What kinds of things do they say?
"Don't kill the favorite characters!" That's what they bombarded when I was posting Father-Son Chronicles and Father Daughter Chronicles on social media. One of them asked me to write a story where no one is getting killed, so yes, Coffee Chronicles is a fulfillment of that request. Plus, their positive appreciations and constructive criticisms helps me to improve myself. What good is a writer if he has no readers? So what I am today is because of them. They invest their time in reading my works, so my job is to create the best possible stories for them.

And if you wonder why I used to kill the characters, have a read of Coffee Chronicles. You'll get your answer.
Do you write more by logic or intuition, or some combination of the two? Summarize your writing process.
By combination of both. I really have no clue how suddenly an idea appears in my mind, so I can say that the concept idea is due to my intuition. But development of the story arc, character profiles, settings and dialogues, they are logical.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Well....an interesting story is behind.
Any message for your readers?
Definitely. I was actually waiting for this question. To all people who have showered their support, I promise to provide you my best possible output. Thanks for taking out your time, reading and appreciating my stories. I think I mentioned in my last interview, you all aren't just my readers, you all are my friends.

Thanks for this interview !
