Interview with Chazle' Woodley

When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I love spending time with my family, Woodley Party of 3! I also love singing and dancing, especially while cooking meals in the kitchen.
What is your writing process?
My writing process involves first getting myself in a quiet, serene place and submerging my space with worship music. Worship music literally sets the atmosphere for me to write exactly what God desires for me to write.
What do you read for pleasure?
For pleasure, I love to read Christian devotional books, empowering books on spiritual lifestyle, fashion magazines and home decor books.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Durham, North Carolina so I am a proud Southern belle! This influenced my writing because I like readers to feel like they are having a conversation with me and being invited into my world. I think this comes from my Southern hospitality.
When did you first start writing?
I first started writing as a young child. I loved creating short stories and poems, and my favorite class was English.
What's the story behind your latest book?
As I have progressed through life, I have noticed that one thing that unites us all is that we all have or will experience one of life’s trials. These life experiences birthed the creation of my first book because the Holy Spirit showed me that everything we need to overcome life’s obstacles has already been placed inside of us by Jesus Christ. He’s such a good Father that he doesn’t only forewarn us several times in his Word that we will face tribulation, but he also promises us that he will be with us in the midst of it, and that he has already overcome it.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I was motivated to become an indie author because I wanted to maintain my own voice, and not compromise the message that I knew God had given me.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy of writing is hearing someone tell me that my story encouraged, inspired or encouraged them. My writing is not about me, but about helping others understand that we have what we need to live victoriously when we submit our lives to Jesus Christ.
Who are your favorite authors?
My favorite authors are Toni Morrison, Mary Monroe and Maya Angelou.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My purpose and destiny of empowering others inspires me to get out of bed. I also understand that my life is not my own, but it is all for the glory of God. I get out of bed because I know that I have a purpose that extends further than myself. I also get out of bed because I am a wife, mother, sister and friend.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Social media has been most effective for me because most people have their phones or electronic devices in their hand or at their disposal on a regular basis.
