Interview with Cherry Seniel

What is your writing process?
When ideas hit me, I wrote it to my notebook first. I always keep a notebook with me, inside my bag, whenever I go out. And when I get the chance to sit in front of my laptop, I started putting the details of that idea until I can see the whole picture—exactly how it was drawn in my head. This is the part that I find amusing at the same time exciting.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Yes. That was during my high school days. I can remember how fascinated I was being in the school library and see all those fiction books filed on the shelves. The first book that really caught my attention was Merlin. I was so fascinated reading the story, the characters, especially Merlin, Lady Morgana, the lady of the lake and a lot more. Of course, how can I forget about Excalibur, the powerful sword that only a true king can pull it from the stone. That was the day that I am seeing the world in a different perspective like magic is there, but it will take an open heart and a wide imagination to feel it. And that was the first time that I was hooked up reading about fiction novels. I told myself, one day, I will write one.
What do you read for pleasure?
I love to read anything there is that I can find on the internet. But when I have enough time and I am free, I read fiction novels. I love paranormal romance. I also love fantasy novels. They elevate my perception about life to a different level. I find it fascinating and relaxing.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
The idea of utilizing my skills to the fullest motivates me. I could get use of my skills in different fields. My IT skills, for instance, it is convenient that I know how to design graphics for my cover page, It's both challenging and exciting coming up with the ideas for the cover. I am a product of MBA, so basically I have a background on how to manage my time effectively and how to handle people who will be working with me for my book. In other words, it's fascinating to have all the liberty embracing my passion in writing. I just love how the learning process molded me to become a better writer.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
For me, the joy in writing is when I can truly feel what my characters feel at the moment when I am writing their story. When they are happy, a feeling of joy overwhelms me. When they feel disappointed, I feel the same. When they cry, I cry—harder. It was like we are connected somehow. I was like a mother to my characters. They are all part of me.
What do your fans mean to you?
They are very special to me. They are the people who believe in me, who see my potential. Without them, it is very difficult to move further. Every step of the way, they are there to support and encourage me to continue building this dream of becoming an author. I am forever grateful.
What are you working on next?
I am mesmerized about writing paranormal romance. So I am planning to write my second book in the same genre.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My family. They are my source of strength.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I surf the internet and look for articles that can help me in my writing endeavors. I also love watching documentaries about other countries. I love learning new cultures and places.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes. It was a short story during my high school days. It was a school requirement. It tells about a granddaughter's care and love to her grandfather. She planned something special to surprise him.
