Interview with Stefanie Chong

When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Mostly I will practice playing my piano and watching too much TV to grasp some ideas for my new book.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Not really. The first draft is often too stupid to think about.
What is your writing process?
I will usually write at night ( I'm a night owl) when everyone's sleeping. It's hard to think up of more ideas when people around you keep making a lot of noise.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I'm always fascinated by authors breathing words into their characters and how they shape them. There aren't many authors in Malaysia and I would like to set a record being one of the rare. Weird, isn't it? I find that in real life we do not have total control and prediction what is gonna happen to us but in fictional story, there are always plenty of surprises.
When did you first start writing?
When I was twelve, i think. My friends would usually ask for my written story and burrow it for ages.
What's the story behind your latest book?
This is a story about a strong bond between sisterhood and i would highly recommend it for those who's sisters. I feel that the relationship between sisters are deeper and more constructive than any other relationships. There are always hidden secrets, crushes and shrewd plans you would want to share with no one else except with your sister.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
When i receive compliments that my story is well-written and has a nice story-line.
What are you working on next?
My next book would be called inevitable and i hope it would bring pleasure to those who reads it.
Who are your favorite authors?
Meg Cabot, Sophie Kinsela, Jodi Picoult and many others.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Myself. I've this strict routine to get up early in the morning and start planning what i should do for the day. I hate to laze around and i guess that makes me look like a parent instead of a teen.
