Interview with Christine C. Wallace

Who are your favorite authors?
My favorite authors are: J.R.R. Tolkien, T.S & E.B.Whites, J.D. Salinger, Frank McCourt, John Steinbeck and David Foster Wallace.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I spend my free time painting, sailing, kayaking and reading. When "working", I volunteer on a tall ship and restore/maintain our own fleet of wooden boats--(and one fiberglass boat named Sugaree).
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Age 11, "Myrtle the Mule" a barnyard mystery written and illustrated by moi'.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings"- read over twenty times. Escaped to Middle Earth regularly as a youngster.
Margaret Mitchell's "Gone With the Wind"- a favorite Christmas present from my father.
J. Steinbeck's "Of Mice and Men" and "Travels with Charlie"- because ideology
JD Salinger "Frannie and Zooey"-
D.F. Wallace- "A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again"- because he gets it.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I like to have control of how I present my work. Publishing myself lets me keep the reins on how the book is marketed and interpreted.
How do you approach cover design?
I am a visual artist first and foremost, so I am very involved in the process. Both of my books cover designs were collaborations with the graphic designers and myself. The most recent book (Prepare to Come About) features my artwork.
What do you read for pleasure?
memoirs and non-fiction lately.
Describe your desk
My desk is on our boat, overlooking the aft deck. From my desk I look across the bay and toward the San Juan Islands.
