Interview with Christine Lasorella

What do you read for pleasure?
I like contemporary romance novels, ones that show relationships that can actually happen. On the flip side, I do love vampire and fantasy-type books, a love affair started by Twilight and the Sookie Stackhouse books so many moons ago.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I have a Kindle, but I also have my iPhone on me. So its usually iPhone during the day and a Kindle for bedtime.
Describe your desk
Picture frames take up most of my desk, mainly photos of my daughter. I have an adorable owl lamp that my sister gave me as a gift. I have my crafting organizers to my right and left, and a paper/calendar organizer hanging on wall in front of me. I also have a Christmas-scented candle lit at all times of the year.
When did you first start writing?
I'd always had these "stories" in my head all throughout my life. It wasn't until I was in my twenties that I started writing them all down.
What's the story behind your latest book?
This is a book that's very close to my heart; it's the first of many stories I've written. The character of Natalie is very similar to me in our way of thinking. I didn't have to extend myself too much to write her thoughts. And Nick, at the time I thought him up, was my ideal "perfect guy".
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords has given me the access and the freedom to publish my own books on my schedule.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I love creating conversations. Its my absolute favorite part.
What are you working on next?
I have the second book in the Nick and Natalie story line about 70% completed. I also have about thirty other books that are in the process of being written. Some are short stories and others are full novels.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My daughter...mainly because she's at my bedside telling me to get up! I have a full time job so that also gets me out of the house everyday.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I'm often writing at night or during my lunch break at work. When I'm not at work, I'm with my daughter playing dollhouse, painting or playing a game she's made up.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I search them out in the Apple store. But I go through phases with my reading. There will be spans of times when I don't read anything, and then a book will pull me in and I'll read it all in one night and then go on a binge of related books. I'm very impatient at times and want to know how a book ends so I'll stay up all night to finish it. Eventually sleep deprivation will catch up with me and I'll go through a dry spell.
What is your writing process?
I'll have scenes or conversations that pop into my head. I'll write them down to make room for another idea. I'll then go through what I have and connect the scenes with other ones.
How do you approach cover design?
I try to keep it simple and professional looking.
