What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy of writing healthy recipe books is the simple fact that I could actually be helping someone lose weight and/or become a healthier more fit person. Thus allowing them to enjoy life more, and possibly live a longer, happier life.
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans are my inspiration! When followers on my blog make comments about how my blog and recipes "Inspire" them, they totally have it backwards. THEY inspire me with those comments. They inspire me to keep experimenting with new recipes, and to keep adding more books so that I can continue to help people on their journey to healthy eating.
What are you working on next?
I have published 2 ebooks with a variety of recipes from appetizers to desserts and smoothies. I am currently in the process of publishing my 3rd ebook in the "Into Your Skinny Jeans" series. This book consists of healthy slow cooker recipes. There are recipes for main courses, side dishes, and even desserts!
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
After teaching 1st-3rd grade for 18 years, I transferred into the Library at my public elementary school 2 years ago. So I'd have to say that 250 elementary students inspire me to get out of bed each day! But in the summer, it is my 2 dogs and my screened in porch! Coming in September, it will be my first Grandchild!
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I'm not writing, I'm usually in the kitchen trying out new healthy recipes. If they are successful, they most likely will end up in one of my next recipe books! When I'm not in the kitchen, I am on my back porch reading a good eBook with my Yorkie and Boxer.
How do you approach cover design?
When I decided that skinny jeans would be in the title somewhere, I knew that skinny jeans obviously had to be incorporated into the cover somehow. But because these were recipe books, I pictured healthy food all over the cover as well. So my friend that is a Whiz with Photoshop, helped me to put these 2 must have ideas together.
What do you read for pleasure?
Summer is my catch up time when it comes to reading. I like to escape from reality when I read, so I go straight for the Fiction section. I'm kind of a vampire fanatic. But not the horror, rip-out-your-throat kind. More along the Twilight, Vampire Diaries line, with the occasional True Blood type book thrown in. I'll change it up from time to time when something great like Fifty Shades comes along.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My ipad. I did inherit my dad's Kindle when he passed away. However, I haven't had the heart to change anything on the account or his books yet. So it's safe to say, I will be sticking to my ipad for a while.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The story behind all of my books is the journey I took to a healthy "Life Change". I lost 48 pounds 4 years ago by eating healthy. These books are full of the recipes that helped me, and I hope they help others to make the changes they need so they may start living a healthy lifestyle too.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
My motivation was friends, family, Facebook friends, Twitter Followers, Pinterest friends and fellow bloggers telling me how much I inspired them, and asking me for my recipes. Instead of throwing out 1-2 recipes at a time, I figured, why not make it easier for everyone to get to them and compile them into a book. Then 1 book lead to another, then a third, and who knows, maybe more?
