Interview with C. K. Quail

When did you first start writing?
I used to write and draw "picture books" on folded sheets of paper when I was a child. My writing has evolved since then (and the subject matter has matured!) and I don't make enough time to draw any more, but very little has changed. I write at every opportunity, both for pleasure and as an emotional outlet.

I was pleased to see my 5 year old son writing his own little "books" recently - hopefully he'll grow to love writing as much as I do.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The story behind my latest book, Vengeance and Love is very simple, and slightly embarrassing to admit. It started off as a short story, and when I realised that I didn't want it to end, I decided to challenge myself and write a novella. I have a problem with novels, in that my hard drive is full of unedited and/or incomplete manuscripts - basically, I lack the motivation to see things through. It seemed like a fun challenge to write and self-publish an erotic novella, partly just to say that I've done it. I think publishing erotica is a great life goal, and I'm glad to have checked it off my list.
Describe your desk
My desk is currently a cluttered dining table with a boisterous child for sound effects - but it can be anywhere. I'm loathe to fit the stereotype of someone who sits in a coffee shop all day, tapping away on their laptop and nursing the same hot chocolate until it's gone cold - so I tend to go to the pub instead. One of my favourite treats is taking myself to the pub for a pint of scrumpy and a writing session (but everything in moderation).
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I'm polyamorous with my hobbies - my other great love is mathematics. I have a masters degree, and one of my other goals in life is to do a PhD (perhaps when my son is older). I'm into pure maths, commutative algebra and combinatorics specifically - that is, generalisations of numbers and counting problems to the layman. I work a few hours a week as a maths tutor, and spend the rest of my time being a parent and preventing the house from descending into chaos.
