Interview with Vincent B. "Chip" LoCoco

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
When you are involved in the actual writing, and suddenly the story just keeps coming to you. And while you are writing, the story is going places you never knew. I love discovering where the story takes you.
What are you working on next?
I am working on Bellafortuna, a novel about a small Sicilian village. It has just recently been named a Short List Finalist in the William Faulkner Competition.
Who are your favorite authors?
J.R.R. Tolkien. He has been the one author who had the biggest impact on my writing career.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My children.
What is your writing process?
It all starts with a story in outline form. Usually when a story comes to me, I know where the story will take place, the main character, and how it will end. The rest of the months are taken up with filling in the story.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I am an attorney in New Orleans with an emphasis in Estate Planning. I have been practicing law for over twenty years now.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes. In grammar school. It had to do with a haunted light house. I think if I remember right, it was terrible.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
i can't remember the first story I read, but when I was 10 I read Lord of the Rings for the first. It blew me away.
